Carving the rug with clippers.
This adds contour and shape and dimension to your rug. It’s a great contrast to the tufting part of the process and we do this at the end. I like hoovering all the fluff from the piece too.

The backing fabric of a rug or wall art piece is very important. Here is a stretched piece of hessian which is held vertically by carpet rack strips which are nailed to the frame. The traditional material to use is called monks cloth but if you want a cheaper option hessian is a great bet. The backing fabric holds the yarn in place. After the design is complete the back of the work is glued to fix the yarns.

He bought the flakes in boxes of about 30 with the layer divider between ‘layers’

Ice cream is my favourite food in the world 🌍
My great grandparents who moved from Italy to Portobello Road after WW1 were ice cream vendors from Frosinone a commune in Lazio, Italy.
So it’s in the blood. And as the weather warms up I can’t help but fancy it most of the time!

Selecting the yarn colours is a really important part of the process of tufting. My yarn is mostly waste wool from the carpet making industry, end of line excess…which is strong yarn and of course a good choice for the 🌍

When I was 6 or 7 i was absolutely obsessed by this dog fella Snoopy. The peanuts cartoon books got me into drawing. I would endlessly trace the black line drawings and it was a massive access in the start of creative expressive for the 6 year old Catherine. I've been in love with the characters from peanuts ever since, so much that I have had countless Snoopy parties, one where I was Lucy plus the analysis booth!
Im proud of 'Dripping Snoopy' as it is a leap into more experimental textile work. It is a great work and can be seen for a couple more days at Newhaven Marine Workshops.

🌊✨ I was lucky enough to visit the Yucatan Peninsula back in 2022 & of course as a swimmer had to check out the magical sink holes or Cenotes. Cenotes II is painted from imagination and inspiration from Mexico. I'll be showing this piece in my upcoming show in. Newhaven with artist @Gallit_Shaltiel.
